Encyclopedia Bimblesnaff: Gilla

A slimy swamp serpent that sneaks on prey.

Entry: Gilla
Series: Ogum
Origin: Various Paper Quests
Generation: 2nd
Created: c. 1995

They live in the noxious marshes, lurking through the murk until bumping into an unsuspecting and stray wanderer. They bound the foolish traveller's legs and spring up from behind to try and finish the struggle swiftly. Even a failed attempt won't matter once it sinks its poisonous fangs into flesh. Its venom will slowly drain the victim while it can return to hiding.

History:

Gilla is an example of convergent evolution. The monster was originally an uninspired, ugly log that was entirely green with gill slits, which was enough to give it a name. This was the amphibious atrosity that first appeared in The Board Game. Prior to this, there was a razor backed Serpent that appeared in nameless Paper Quests and enjoyed a brief stint in the Quest series as an enemy in the third installment. The two were combined in the Great Unification wars of G4. The more creative and ... actual of the two names stuck while merging their forms, practically all of the Serpent's, save the gills.
